These models are absolutely employees of any place they do work–you may want to look up the definition of an “employee”. They may not be full-time employees, but they work and they are paid by a company for that work–an employee. That employer takes out FICA and other taxes and reports the wages earned by their employee’s to the government.
Of course they can do other stuff and you are right, any of these “former models” can come back their is an agreement between Sean Cody and them.

Just because they are under contract for some period of time, does not mean they are locked in a room and can not leave. I am under contract to work for my employer. All the contract specifies is that I can not do similar work for a competitor for a period of one year. Annually, I renegotiate that contract and can choose to sign or leave. I can still leave my office…go to school…bag groceries in a store…etc. Clearly, Stu for example, does need another source of income and to plan for a future as we know porn viewers are notorious for being fickle and tossing a popular model aside for the next big thing.
