With respect to the non-pink elephant in the room, I’d advise anyone who is still on that “But he’s a bigot” tip to check out the site of He Who Must Not Be Named, which features a screenshot of that email Bryan wrote to Mason Wyler all those years ago. Bryan addresses the flake issues and alludes to the drug issues, but Zane being a violent bigot doesn’t get a mention. He doesn’t even bring it up in this writeup. That’s pretty telling. And Bryan has proven time and again he has an appreciation and respect for models of color. I can’t see him introducing a bigoted element to his roster. But beyond that, there’s Mason’s take on the situation. Despite being messy beyond belief, I like Mason. However, there is no way I’m going to spend the day with someone spewing bigotry and continue to spend the day with them after they reveal violent tendencies and throw a glass at me, and then drop them off the next day. That’s the part that always seemed odd to me. You were so offended by his behavior but you still hung out with him and probably got in some more dick before he left? That’s not how outrage works.

Who knows what Zane’s deal was back then. If he did display bigotry, maybe it was brought about by ignorance or a lack of exposure to other cultures. People grow. People change. People get their lives together. People accept their sexuality. If I’m remembering correctly, Aries had a bigoted tat, got it covered up and was dating a Black guy. I have no problem giving second chances to people who at least make the effort to change their narrow mindset. People like Paul, Damian, Trenton and the like I have no problem writing off because they choose to wallow in ignorance and promote hatred.

Yeah, I’m ready to bury the hatchet, so to speak. Even though I don’t believe Mason was lying, you have to take into account Zane was a kid at the time–on drugs, and his brain wasn’t even fully developed. I think some life experience goes a long way into the people we become.
