Saw his tweets on the topic and also read the Out article where Jacen shared more of what goes on behind the scenes. The proposed parolee/officer scene depicted Jacen Zhu as an object coerced into satisfying the sexual needs of another man exercising institutional authority over him. I didn’t need to read the script to know this; the situation tells it all. Apparently, Chi Chi said he doesn’t think about how black men are perceived when writing scripts. That is a big problem.

With such a lack of perspective, Chi Chi LaRue needn’t be in the position writing and directing scenes featuring black men. “Well, when I write these things, I don’t think about that,” reveals how he managed to ignore basic concepts for over two decades. But this is par for the course for Chi Chi. The Black Balled series – curiously praised by many – objectified black men and portrayed them as predatory over a long duration. I believe it’s elements legitimized typecasting in “mainstream” gay porn and it’s acceptability limited the means black actors could find a wider audience. Noir Male as a concept offered gay black men a new way to be seen, but it was headed by the wrong people, from holding company to director.

Gay porn will never have salons refining thought with the free exchange of ideas across creative teams, but at some point get a fucking clue.
