I think Thomas was scared of how much he was enjoying his “job” and it affected him during his last return.

I definitely don’t want to overrepresent my own expertise. I’ve been paying attention to them since slightly before they went (fleetingly) bareback in 2006. My attention was fairly zealous during the Harper era even though it took me most of his career to realize that I liked him the best (because they had such an embarrassment of riches). Just like soap operas in the 80s each had a distinctive visual design (I could pick a screen grab of ABC whether I knew the characters or not), such is true for Corbin Fisher. And it always seems darker and more muted than it ought to be.
