I’m sure people have been downvoting even before the display glitched out. I checked old comments in several articles around here and some of the comments already have downvotes. I guess we’re kinda so used to only be shown upvotes that a display of disagreement becomes a bit of a surprise.

I heard sometime around 2014 disqus stopped showing downvotes. Also, from one of Scrapple’s screenshots he did downvote some comments in the past but the numbers weren’t shown. So yeah.

Anyway, disqus’s glitching again like past comments. Now the amount of comments are getting doubled with copies.

Yeah, the numbers are new. Previously it would only show you downvotes on posts you downvoted. The downvotes were supposed to figure into how comments were sorted, of you used the “Best” feature, since the heavily downvoted comments would be at the bottom of the screen. Disqus flirted with displaying the numbers years ago, and they implemented it for a brief period. People complained and they took it away. Then other complained that posters shouldn’t be delicate flowers and the numbers should be shown.
