Memory is untrustworthy, but this is what I remember. 2012-14 was an almost comical era of porn luxury with BA, CF, SC, and CM all doing a high, high level of work. I think the real mystery is why those three years were so good. It defies reason. I also joined Mormonboyz for the first time during that time and Angus was doing handsfree pullouts in every other scene.

What happened after that? Sean Cody appeared to be phasing himself out, and although they had far to fall, you could tell by 2015 that something was changing. Bryan Ockert seemed to be running on fumes around the same time. (I think when he stopped performing in scenes himself is when he stopped caring, the former being a consequence of the latter.) It’s far less clear to me why CF began to decline. I don’t know that there is a way to measure just how many companies have been producing scenes year over year but Next Door and Lucas E went raw, while Family Dick and MEN began to flood the market. This overlaps with OF launching in 2016 so maybe the problem is indeed too many avenues for employment (in front of and behind the camera). TimTales, RawStrokes, CockyBoys, ColbyKnox, and FamilyDick were all doing good to amazing work before covid, which had me thinking that the industry was doing okay, but now I am not overly impressed with ANY of them. And nothing has improved at the other companies. A friend asked me this week where I would work if I could do porn right now. Other than wanting to be inseminated by Colby or Cole Maverick, there is not one company that I would fantasize about working for right now. Every fantasy of mine involves some other era.

I concur. I also don’t think that a blog/person has the power to sink the industry, but since the Jarek event broke the news, SC never was the same again (I don’t remember if this was coincidental with the MG purchase and the change of equipment). I don’t know if the studio was threatened in some way, but the cover of said blog was over-the-top and perhaps mean-spirited, as much as in other news.

And since consumers have now direct communication with porn stars via social media or OF, some models promote this contact or are ok with it, but at the same time, probably prevents others to appear in porn made by studios. Or some models make mediocre performances in traditional porn and get the cash and are better in their own business.
