Maros Trojan and Dimitri Toyla came in to casting on the same day. They both looked good so I thought we would invite them to do an ambush shoot together, immediately. They agreed and the result was very entertaining indeed. The guys did everything we asked of them, even though they were a little surprised, and made it a very good shoot. Both have since been back for more. It should be said, when they were in the waiting room, I thought they were friends and had come to casting together. Turns out, they didn’t know each other, and had never met. So, maybe I’ve gotten it all wrong. It might be better to through complete strangers together in these ambush shoots. Friends might be worried that the other would say something back home to someone else. Or the other they might be worried what their friend might think. Total strangers don’t matter. They’ll probably never see each other again, unless they take a fancy to each other on the shoot. When the guys stood up and wanked each other, they said, we’re about to come. Unfortunately, our backstage cameraman was pretty inexperienced at the time, and started asking me questions about how to set his camera. Hearing this, the two guys lost it. They quickly got it back. And the cameraman has learned to ‘wing-it’ in such rapid-fire situations. It must be said, I love these impromptu situations more than practically any of my other work.
