Puppy play (or any, really form of play that involves alternate headspaces) is a healthy way of temporarily putting yourself into a present headspace, and, with enough time, can help you learn to live in the moment. For a lot of people looking to get into BDSM, puppy play is one of the most popular and accessible forms of kink. Not only is it easy to create your own pup persona and get into the headspace, but because there are so few hard and fast rules, you have a lot of room for creativity to explore and play the way you want. Have the receiver start by putting on some basic safety gear. Kneepads, paw-mitts, and finally the hood. Use the time it takes adjusting the hood to start getting into a puppy headspace. Dogs don't have concepts of past or future. Dogs exist in the now. Moment to moment. Clear your mind and focus on any sensation that exists in the present, whether that's smell, sight, or touch. As a handler, treat your puppy like you would real dogs at a dog park. Allow them to approach you, rather than chasing after them. If their body language and vocal cues permit it, feel free to pet your puppy. Pup toys, like balls or squeaky toys, also work well with puppies. Since puppies can't vocalize their thoughts, they express it through their body language and through the tone of their barking. Bouncy, enthusiastic body language and bright, playful barking indicate happy and receptive puppies. A reserved or quiet puppy might not be willing to play. If another pup squares off against you and presses their head against you, they may be looking to wrestle. Reciprocate their stance to engage them in wrestling. The winner is whoever can pin the other puppy, or whoever can get the other puppy to voluntarily flip-over. Puppy play is a healthy way of temporarily putting yourself into a present headspace, and with enough time, can help you learn to live in the moment.
